With millennials and gen Z shunning labels, welcoming non-traditional lifestyles and, in general, demonstrating greater acceptance and open-mindedness about everything from gender stereotypes to who or how many people they bed, polyamory is increasingly prevalent. AFP Even screen stars like Nico Tortorella — the heart-throb of the Stan series Younger — has made no secret of his polyamorous relationship with Bethany Meyers, whom he married earlier this year. Oct 18, at Now, pretty much everything I knew about polyamory I learned from the Dan Savage podcast or from a few hippies I knew in Austin in the early aughts, but I was very interested in how a mainstream premium cable network would handle a subject like this. Turns out, it does it very, very well. The series is the perfect balance of a fascinating anthropological documentary, a juicy soap opera, and a titillating softcore porn.
The emotions and dynamics are nuanced, and the characters are deep, smart and seem like actual humans. Just normal people who happen to be super hot and have very untraditional love and relationship setups. Kamala and Michael are married with a 4 year old son. Their lovers, Jenn and Tahl, are another married couple who live in a little guest house in the backyard.
The foursome engages in group sex, sometimes with all of the members, sometimes with various combinations. The women are bisexual and sleep with each other. Michael is straight, but enjoys having group sex with other men, and seeing his wife with other dudes. We are introduced to a few outside lovers during the 2 seasons, and it is fascinating to watch the dynamics between the new lovers and primary partners.
Sometimes there is a lot of jealousy, sometimes there is no jealousy.
Polyamory: Despite what Dan Savage says, is non-monogamous dating too much?
It should be noted that the largest Mormon church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, long ago officially renounced plural marriage as something for this life. It is numerous smaller Mormon denominations that still practice plural marriage. The general definition of polyamory is having a romantic, dating, courting, or marital relationship or engaging in sex with more than one person not necessarily together , under agreement by all not cheating.
Polyamory and monogamy are alternatives to each other. Polyamory can involve heterosexuals, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or people of any sexual orientation, and any gender. So, it could be a man and two women, two men and one woman, three men, three women, etc.

Is this ideal love? Do you live or want to live with a person you no longer love but are forced to tolerate just because of the children? Does couplehood seem like a compromise to you? Do you aspire to a future where you are fettered to the dictates of society? Are monogamous people permitted to see porn films without their partner knowing?
Where is the limit? Monogamy encourages so many unnatural and ridiculous distortions. Release yourself from fear! You can be free. In the 17th century the Catholic church sentenced Galileo to imprisonment because he dared to disagree with the prevailing perception at the time that the Earth was in the center with the sun orbiting it.

Not only does everyone love differently, but we all find fulfillment in different ways. I dated someone who had a monogamous wife. More on that later. To offer a bit of a summary before I move on to some of the finer points, though, overall I have to say this show is a good thing. And unless it portrayed poly folks in a simply awful light, I think that any amount of increased awareness is a meaningful thing. But all joking mostly aside, I present a list of my likes and dislikes about the show, in no particular order.
And I mean an absolute lack. I know that poly communities do struggle with this in reality, but the lack of people of color is not nearly as absolute in real life poly world as it is on the show. The entire cast is white, able-bodied, cisgendered, thin and conventionally attractive. There are bi women which is hot, right? But I still reserve the right to complain about it. Some of the rules present bothered me, in both situations.
And I do have a big criticism of one cast member accusing his wife of not being poly for not wanting to share her girlfriend with him. If people have an agreement that includes that entitlement, cool.
