M1 Carbine Change in 10 minutes! Easy fit for my early production Inland carbine. Folding stock works great. Oiler is too small for the spring slot, but I don’t want to be chasing after my oiler on a drop zone anyway! Asked about fit for various models. Was told that stock was sold as a M-1 stock. My concern was about M-2 fit.
Stock already inletted for M-2 selector! Great fit,off to the range! Thanks once more Sarco! First let me say, it’s a very nicely built, historically accurate folding stock. It fits to my new production Inland M1 perfectly, giving the gun an entirely different character as well as making it much shorter. But it does a deficiency in how the folding stock operates.
I’ve studied photos of the original issue Paratrooper stock and there are parts differences.

The FA parts would have just dropped in. Even the stock was relieved for the disconnector lever. Wish I would have registered it back then and converted it, it would be worth a bundle now. Anyway, mine was accurate and reliable. Used to be able to buy GI ammo in spam cans. It came on stripper clips with a built in mag guide, and you could load a mag quicker than it takes to write this. At the time I owned mine, you could walk into any discount store, and they had them for sale, not even behind the counter, but right out in the aisle where you could pick them up and look them over.

The first time I loaded it I could only get 29 rounds in it and the last 2 were a struggle to get in. When I put the loaded magazine in my m1 I had to wiggle it to get it to fully seat in the gun and on the 3rd shot I had a ftf. The bolt didn’t quite go all the way into battery. After firing all the rest with no issues I disassembled the magazine and found a sharp burr on the bottom back of the magazine follower.
After using a file to remove the burr and smooth the follower I reassembled it and it now accepts 30 rounds with no problems and functions flawlessly in my new Inland M1! I previously had purchased a South Korean made 30 round magazine and had to do major modifications to that to get it to work at all. I have not have any issues and will definitely be back for more and recommend to all of my friends. Cory from their customer service was super helpful after I sent pictures supporting my claim.
I had a replacement in no time! If you have any issues with these magazines, check your magazine catch, or you have a carbine in need of a tune up. I only shoot quality brass cased ammo in my M1 and these magazines feed rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger. It came with two 15 round mags. I bought a 30 rounder that wouldn’t even fit in the mag well.
The last new one was made in , IIRC. Since, the US military has been using them, in Korea and early on in Viet Nam, and since then many of them have been loaned to other countries. When the CMP got them back, they went over them and sorted out the good ones, and re-arsenalled–again–any that were defective. That is, they broke the worst ones down for parts, and fixed the not-so-bad ones with the parts.
And any carbines that have ever been re-arsenalled, also got the newer, better, rear sight, the improved rotary safety, and the wider front handguard band with the bayonet lug, which is sturdier and makes the carbine a better shooter.

Owners, Your Assistance is Needed Please this is really helping folks Research Project 1 I am attempting to reconstruct the month and year these carbines were manufactured. If you have any of the following information, it would be great assistance in sorting this out. A I am trying to locate owners who purchased their Universal carbine when it was new and still have documentation that indicates the month and year. Army Ordnance Serial Number Assignments Understanding Serial Numbers – Understanding Dates of Manufacture Serial number blocks were assigned by the Ordnance Department on an as needed basis, generally in response to the awarding of a contract to a given manufacturer. The serial number was placed on the carbine receiver during the manufacturing process of the receiver, not when the carbine was finally assembled. The decision for which receivers would be used for the U.
Carbine Models M1, M1A1, or M2 were made well after the receiver was completed as all of these models used the same receiver. Given the high volume production, receivers were generally assembled as part of a carbine within a few months after the receiver was serial numbered. However, dating a carbine by it’s serial number alone is difficult and not always accurate given the circumstances inherent with manufacturing and the logistics situation during the time the carbines were manufactured.
A few of the manufacturers at various times used subcontractors to manufacture their receivers. Serial numbered receivers that failed to pass inspection were set aside as rejects if the defect s could not be brought up to minimum standards. As solutions to old problems were learned, some of the same receivers were brought back online and completed i. Winchester receivers initially rejected because of an off spec deep hole drilled for the recoil spring and guide, later recovered and altered to use a detachable main spring housing.
If a receiver was scrapped and not used, it’s serial number may or may not have been reused. No documentation has been found that indicates the dates serial numbers were placed on the receivers.
